Let's note right away that all the main weapons in the game can be found along the storyline, meaning it's almost impossible to miss them. However, you can speed up their acquisition a little if you know exactly where to look for them. Plus, some combat gear is hidden behind rather complex puzzles, so below we'll briefly tell you about their location and provide links to detailed guides.
Board with Nails
You'll find it almost at the very beginning of the game, when you get to the eastern part of the South Valley and explore the house on Martin Street. The hero will be attacked by a monster and James will rip a board with nails out of the window to fight it.
Pistol
You can find it in the Woodside Residential Complex in apartment #217, located on the second floor. You will get to this room in any case, since you will have to do this according to the story. However, in a separate guide, we told you how you can significantly speed up this moment in order to quickly get your first firearm. The gun will be in the red basket.
Steel Pipe
You can get it when you get to the western part of South Valley after visiting Rosewater Park and finding Maria there. Move along the streets to the south until a hurricane starts. Monsters will immediately start attacking you, and James will throw away a board and take a steel pipe instead of it during a cutscene, meaning it is impossible to miss this weapon.
Shotgun
You will be able to find this weapon in Brookhaven Hospital, where you will get when you run after Laura. The weapon is on the second floor of the building in the women's locker room. However, you will not be able to get to this room right away. First of all, you need to get the key to the basement in the locker of the emergency room. Hunting Rifle

Chainsaw
You can only get this unique weapon after starting «New Game +», which is unlocked when you complete the entire story at least once. You can find it in the South Valley on the way to town. It lies in the Silent Hill Ranch on sawn logs.
