In Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2)Ancient Vows is a secret side quest that requires you to find certain relics and then insert them into a special altar. The difficulty is that the game gives virtually no guidance on how to find these items. In this guide, we will tell you in detail how to start this quest and complete it.
Walking through the quest “Ancient Vows” in PoE 2
How to start the quest
You can only take on this mission in Act 2, and unlike other side missions, it is not given out by talking to a character – for this you will need to find a Relic of the Sun Clan or a Relic of the Cabal Clan. Then the corresponding quest will automatically appear in your journal. So first of all, we will tell you where to find both items.
Where is the Sun Clan Relic (green)
The first thing you will need to do is head to the Mastodon Badlands, located in the northwest of the global map. Start exploring the level until you find a passage to the Bone Pits. Note that this will be part of the story quest “The Ivory Theft”, so you are unlikely to miss it.
After reaching the required area, take on its complete clearing, destroying all enemies encountered along the way. The fact is that the Relic of the Sun Clan randomly drops from any of the mobs (some note that it is more likely to drop from hyenas) in this location. It may even be the boss of the Bone Pits. However, if you are lucky, you will receive a green artifact at the very beginning of the farm.
Note: You can even get 2 relics from one monster, however, as soon as you pick up one of them, the second one will immediately disappear (this is not a bug).
Where is the Relic of the Kabala Clan (yellow)
It can be found in the Ket location, where you will go on the story mission “City of Seven Waters”, that is, again, you are unlikely to pass by this area. As in the case of the first relic, the yellow artifact also drops randomly from any monsters (some note that it is more likely to drop from snakes), so just destroy all the monsters in your path.
Find a Use for the Relics
Once you have both items, you won't see any hints on how to use them – the description will only say that the relics need to be connected to each other somehow. This can be done at a special altar in the Valley of Titans. You'll have to go there for the main quest “A Crown of Stone”.
In this location, you will need to find a secret portal and an altar called Medallion. Note that the map of the area is randomly generated, so it is impossible to show the exact location of the teleporter, but it often appears approximately in the center of the location. The pictures below show its possible location.
From the portal, go a little to the side, and you will find a huge stone statue, at the foot of which there is an altar, where you need to place the relics. To do this, select empty cells by holding down the “Alt” key, and then simply move the artifacts into them.
Note: If the altar cells continue to disappear, try enabling the display of chests and portals in the game settings, and press the “Z” key next to the altar.
Your reward will be one of the permanent buffs of your choice:
- Increases the number of charges issued by 30% amulets.
- Increases mana recovery from flasks by 15%.
Note that you can change the bonus at any time by approaching the altar again. As for the choice of buff, everything is quite simple here – characters who care about mana, take the second option, and everyone else should take the perk for amulet charges.
