How to start the quest
First of all, go through the story mission called “Beasts of Prophecy”. When you visit Vanaheim again, you will be given a side quest “The Smell of Survival”, which will lead you to a new area – the Crater. Immediately after that, you will automatically receive the required task.
Go to Birgir
First move west to the edge of the area, then go north to the entrance into the cave (shown in the pictures below) – go through it.
Climb the wall to the ledge and approach the Sky Altar ahead. You need to change daytime to nighttime.
Then head to the gate that was made available to you and deal with the ogre. Open the iron gate.
Continue down the main road, past a red chest on the left side (if you approach it, it will start a fight with an optional boss). Crawl through the gap and you'll enter the Crimson Horror arena.
How to defeat the Crimson Horror
This is a red dragon that can use quite a few melee attacks and exhale flames. He can make an unblockable dash towards the player and then perform a block-breaking strike. At close range, the boss will usually deliver various bites that you can dodge, parry or block.

Staying close to the dragon, you should carefully watch its head – if you see a red circle near it, then it means that the enemy is planning to perform an unblockable fire attack. At this point, you should immediately jump back to avoid taking damage.
During the fight, the Crimson Horror will rise into the sky several times and begin to spew flames, flying over Kratos. In order for him to stop his air attack, you will need to knock him down with a spear – throw it right at the head of the monster so that he falls, and you can hit him with impunity for 5-10 seconds. We advise you to use all your abilities at this moment to inflict maximum damage on the dragon.
When the boss bar drops to zero, run up to him and press R3 to finish off the dragon. Killing him will give you Frozen Flame (axe upgrade), Vanaheim's Fortitude (amulet enchantment) and 2 dragon claws.
Save Birgir
After dealing with the monster, climb the wall at the back of the location, and there you will find Birgir. Talk to him.
Send Birgir through the Mystic Gate
Next, you will need to activate the nearby Mystic Gate to help the warrior. As soon as you restore the gate, a new dialogue with Birgir will begin. Then the request will come to an end. As a reward, you will receive the Framework of the Nine Worlds (shield upgrade), Whispering Stone x75, 3000 experience points for Kratos and 750 experience points for Atreus.
