One of the interesting side missions in Kingdom Come Deliverance II is the quest “Axe from the Lake“, which is related to the tasks in the location Troski. As a reward for completing it, you will receive a rare weapon – Decorated Axe. However, getting it will not be easy, because, according to legend, the axe is hidden in a special place. In this guide, you will learn how to start the quest and successfully get the weapon.
How to start the quest “Axe from the Lake”
To start the quest, go to Tahov village. It is located west of Trosky Castle. It is important to get a shovel in advance, since without it you will not be able to complete the quest.
In Tahov, you will meet an NPC named Zdenek Pustobrekh. If he is not there, talk to the innkeeper, he will tell you where you can find the right person and at the same time buy him a drink to get the conversation going.
Places where you can find Zdenek:
- In the barn in the north of the village
- At the table in the tavern
- On the bench next to the tavern
Ask Zdenek to share a story. To do this, you can either successfully pass one of the tests, or offer him a drink, or, like any other question in this world, solve it with pennies.
Once you talk to Zdenek, he will tell you an old legend about two brothers and a silver axe. This story will be the starting point for your search. After that, the quest “Axe from the Lake” will appear in your quest log.
Hunting for the Silver Axe
According to Zdenek, your goal is located southwest of Tachov, near the gypsy camp and pond. Use fast travel to this place, then move along the eastern road. According to the legend, one of the brothers, Matej, encountered a water spirit. Therefore, having reached the fork, go northeast, and then turn southeast, going deeper into the forest. Here you will need to find the waterman's hut as a landmark.
Continuing along the eastern road, you will soon find yourself at a secluded building, hidden away from the main road.
Climbing the Mountains
The rest of the story indicates the need to climb up, to the place where the ancient oak grows. After leaving the hut, return to the path and follow northeast. Soon the road will begin to climb up, and large stones will appear on the sides. Keep going until you find yourself in a dense forest. Here you will find a noticeable landmark – a large stone, which will confirm not only the words from the legend, but also that you are moving in the right direction. As soon as Henry recognizes it, then you have done everything correctly and you can move on.
Now it remains to find the top of the hill, where Matei's body rests. Move further northeast, and when you overcome the rise, examine the opposite side of the hill. That's where the grave is located, in which the sought-after axe is hidden. Use a shovel to dig up the find.
Restoring an Axe
Having received a broken axe, you will need to repair it. To do this, go to the nearest forge. Interact with the anvil and open the “Axes” tab. The “Decorated Axe” blueprint will be displayed here, which will require a broken axe and additional fasteners, which can be purchased from the blacksmith.
Quest finale
After restoring the axe, it's time to return to Tachov to Zdenek. Show him the weapon, and he will be surprised that the legend turned out to be true. However, there will be no reward for the dialogue – your reward is already in your hands.
