In Baldur's Gate 3, Finding the Mushroom Picker is a side quest during which you will need to help Baelen get out of the trap and find good mushroom Next, you will have to decide who exactly to give this mushroom to – Derrit, her husband, or Shadowheart. How to start the quest
Go to the Dungeon, and then go to the northern part of it and find Derrit Bonecloak there (X: 50, Y: -97). It is located near the Myconid Colony. The gnome will tell you about her missing husband and ask you to find him.
How to find and save Baelen
A large area will appear on the map showing the approximate location of the character you need. Move towards this circle. Once you reach the clearing (X: -19, Y: 083) where bieberbangs grow – spherical mushrooms that explode when someone approaches and leave behind a poisonous mist – a cutscene with Baelen will immediately begin.< /p>
Do not approach the mushroom picker under any circumstances, as in this case all the mushrooms will immediately explode, killing Baelen. So when you find a clearing, if the video does not start, first save, and then slowly move towards its edge.
The mushroom picker will point to some kind of scroll and bag. We are talking about the spell “Misty Step”. If you already have a piece of paper with the necessary enchantments, then mention them in a conversation, and then throw them to him, passing a Strength check (10). The gnome will catch the item and then immediately move towards you.
If you don't have a scroll, you'll have to find the mushroom picker's backpack. It is located just below the torch lying near the rock. If you have Gale on your team or are a wizard yourself, then summon the Magic Hand and then fly it to the bag (the mushrooms will not react to it). Next, start throwing the bag towards Baelen – be careful not to hit the plants. As soon as the backpack is near the mushroom picker, he will be able to use the spell.
If you don’t have a magic hand, you can try running between the mushrooms to the backpack or walking along the stone ledges to the left of the clearing (in the picture Both routes are shown below). In the bag you will find a “Dark Step”, which you need to throw to the mushroom picker.
When Baelen gets out of the trap, talk to him to receive the Invisibility scroll. He will then immediately run to his wife. Return back to Derrit. She will not be very happy about the arrival of her husband, because he went for the good mushroom, but never brought anything. However, you will still receive a reward from her – Gloves of the Indomitable Kushigo.
Where to find the dobroshroom
Although the quest is formally completed, you can try to find the dobroshroom yourself. To do this, return to the clearing with dangerous plants. The item you need is on the opposite side, right next to the rock. There are different ways to reach it.
- Choose Laesel or Karlach, and then use their long jumps to jump to the right place without letting the mushrooms explode.
- Use the Misty Step or Grant Flight spell to move unhindered to the desired location.
- Use fire arrows or spells to clear a path for yourself and quickly pick up the good mushroom.

Having obtained the desired item, use the runic circle to safely get out of the clearing if the mushrooms are still there.
Who should I give the good mushroom to?
You can save it for yourself to use as a healing agent, as it can completely heal the character and remove all negative statuses from him. However, we still do not advise you to use it in this way.
It is best to give the good mushroom to one of the three characters. You can give the plant to Derrit, who is going to sell it in Baldur's Gate, thereby improving your financial situation. She won't give you anything in return (unless you pass the Intimidation check), but she will thank you and tell you to be sure to visit her pharmacy in town – you will be given discounts on goods.
You can let Baelen eat it to clear his mind. However, according to Derrit, he was not a good husband and constantly pushed her around, so she will not be happy with your decision. The mushroom picker will thank you and also ask you to look into the shop, where he will give you a discount.
You can also give the mushroom to Shadowheart so that she can restore some of her memories. However, to do this you will need to pass a Persuasion (12) or Intimidation check. She will tell you about a tiefling boy (girl) from her childhood who became her first friend.
This friend's name is Rennald/Nocturne. You may actually meet an older tiefling who will remember Shadowheart. The dialogue with him will be slightly different if you convinced the priestess to eat the good mushroom, but you will not receive any additional rewards. So we still recommend giving it to Derrit.
