In Dragon Age The VeilguardFactions are an important part of the character creation editor, essentially acting as a backstory for the main character, indicating their origins in Thedas. They provide unique bonuses and can affect dialogue with certain characters. In this guide, we will look at all the factions and tell you which one is best to choose.
Features of factions in Dragon Age The Veilguard
There are a total of six factions in the game, and each of them provides certain bonuses that can be useful for certain classes. Below, we will briefly consider all the benefits and key points of each group.
Gray Wardens
The character will have the following perks:
- Blood Ties – accelerated reputation gain with the Gray Wardens.
- Fel Exterminator – you deal increased damage to the creatures of darkness.
- The fruits of training – the base defense and health indicators are slightly increased.
The darkspawn are quite common opponents, especially at the beginning of the game, and increasing defense and health will be very useful for the Warrior class. The rest of the information can be seen in the screenshot above.
Veil Wanderers
The character will have the following perks:
- Veil Affinity – accelerated reputation gain among the Veil Wanderers.
- Precise Strikes – you deal increased damage to Shadow-touched enemies.
- Eye of the Eye – you deal increased critical damage and damage to weak spots.
Getting a bonus to critical damage will be useful for a Rogue class hero, who is just aimed at delivering critical hits. The rest of the information can be seen in the screenshot above.
Dragon Shadows
The character will have the following perks:
- Light in the Darkness – accelerated reputation gain among the Shadow Dragons.
- Always in the Shadows – you deal increased damage to the Venatori.
- Vitality – the resource reserve for your class restores much faster.
Venatori are quite common in the early missions of the game. Resources are special scales that are specific to each class: for warriors it is “Rage”, for rogues – “Impulse”, and for mages – “Mana”. This will be most useful for mages, but this bonus will be useful for other classes as well. The rest of the information can be seen in the screenshot above.
Lords of Fortune
The character will have the following perks:
- General Glory – accelerated reputation increase with the Lords of Fortune.
- Healthy Rivalry – you inflict increased damage to enemy mercenaries.
- No Mercy – it takes a little less effort to finish off an enemy.
Finishing blows carried out after stunning enemies can potentially cause huge damage. For this reason, this faction will theoretically be useful for any class. The rest of the information can be seen in the screenshot above.
Sorrow Watch
The character will have the following perks:
- Everyone has heard about the accelerated reputation increase among the Sorrow's Watch.
- Return to the Grave – you deal increased damage to undead and demons.
- Strong Curses – you will be able to impose an additional charge of a curse on targets.
Demons are some of the most powerful enemies in the game, and they are quite common. The additional charge of the curse will be very useful for the Mage class. The rest of the information can be seen in the screenshot above.
Antivan Crows
The character will have the following perks:
- Under the Wing – accelerated increase in reputation with the Antivan Crows.
- Current Contract – you deal increased damage to enemies from the antaam.
- Secret Pocket – allows you to take one more potion with you.
Antaams are quite strong and dangerous qunari, but they are encountered in the game somewhat less often than other opponents. An additional healing potion will be a huge help for any squad, especially at the beginning of the game, when allies do not have powerful healing abilities.
Which faction to choose in Dragon Age The Veilguard
If you want to get an easy start in the game, we recommend you choose the Shadow Dragons (for a mage), Antivan Ravens (for any class) or Grey Wardens (for a warrior). The thing is, they offer useful attack boosts against the enemies you will most often encounter in the early game (Venatori and Darkspawn). Oh, and these enemies will not disappear in the future.
Besides everything else, the first factions for which you will have to complete quests will be the Antivan Ravens and the Dragon Shadows. Thus, you will be able to quickly develop relations with any of them, and then move on to increasing the rating with other groups.
If we consider only perks, then the additional potions of the Ravens and the regeneration of resources of the Shadows will be extremely useful for almost any class. However, in general, all these bonuses have a relatively weak effect on actual gameplay. Therefore, we advise you to simply first choose a class, race and personality for your character, and only then choose a faction for him, based only on what kind of hero you want to play.
The impact of the choice of faction on gameplay
In addition to bonuses and improving relations with a certain group, the choice of faction also affects the following elements:
- Your character's surname.
- Hero reputation among other people: some characters may already know or have heard of you or your faction, so they will treat you with warmth or, on the contrary, with suspicion. All this can make certain quests easier or more difficult, but not much.
- Your Ambition Armor: Each faction has a unique set of armor styled to match it. However, no one stops you from buying and wearing armor from another faction. It is sold by faction merchants at their bases. Sometimes you need to fulfill certain requirements to unlock it.
- Starting letter for the character: Rook will have a letter from his chosen faction in his inventory with additional information about his past and how exactly he came to work with Varric.
- Additional dialogue options “Factions”: In some conversations, you may have new answers related to his faction background. Sometimes they can help resolve certain disputes.
- Conversations between party members: Your companions may begin to talk about Rook's past and connections depending on their current surroundings. For example, a hero belonging to the Dragon Shadows may comment on their experience fighting the Venatori.
However, in general, all of these changes are quite minor in terms of the general mechanics of the game. The faction only adds a little flavor to your future encounters, making the player feel that Rook is not just a green rookie, but has some kind of backstory behind him. Therefore, we advise you to choose a faction not based on bonuses, but in accordance with the desired roleplaying.
This concludes the guide to choosing a faction in Dragon Age The Veilguard. We hope that this information will help you in choosing the best option for your character.
