In Genshin Impact, the Fire Flame Furnaces are part of a larger puzzle related to the Old Sword that can be found in Ochkanatlan. Solving this riddle will reward you with several chests, including luxurious ones, and the epic one-handed sword Flute Espical. In this guide, we will tell you in detail what you need to do to get it.
Solving the riddle with the old sword in Ochkanatlan
Where is the old sword
Before attempting this puzzle, you will need to have unlocked Ochkanatlan by taking on the large quest chain, A Lost Traveler in the Abode of Ash. We also recommend completing it to unlock the many teleporters in the area. Then, head to the teleport point shown in the screenshots below.
Next, turn around and jump off the cliff down, starting to glide to the arena. After landing, move west along the path. You will see columns on both sides of the path with glowing seals. If you interact with them, they will indicate the current status of some Fire Flame Furnaces in different areas of the map.
Walk forward a little, approach the blade stuck in the ground, and try to pull it out. You will see a sign on the screen saying that the old sword is as if tied to space itself and does not move.
To get it, you will have to activate 5 furnaces. Below we will note how to do this. The map below shows their approximate locations.
Fire Flame Furnace in the Southwest (1)
Travel to the central-west teleporter on the seashore, then run northwest to a small island ahead. In the ruins, you will find a glowing seal – interact with it to travel to a special area.
Go to the rune to make one rise up and disappear behind the closed door. Then transform into a jumkasaurus using the green transformation stone, turn around and pull (key “E”) the lever to the right of the stone gate to open it.
Enter the room, pull the handle on the other side, grab the red sphere on the pedestal and shoot it at the red target hanging in the main hall above. The entire process of solving the riddle is shown in the gif above. This will open the door you need and allow you to go upstairs.
Once you've climbed up, run forward for the seal, opening a rich chest along the way. Then use the lift to drop down. Continue running to the left for the glowing symbol and wait for it to fly through the closed door.
Return to the main hall and pull the lever on the right to rotate the right beam turret to face you, then pull the lever on the left to rotate the left beam turret to face the closed door.
Next, take the blue sphere in the main hall, stand near the left turret and shoot the ball at the right turret. When the projectile flies, pull the handle of the closed door to open it. Now wait until the ball hits the red target. The entire process of solving the puzzle is shown in the gif above. After that, enter the opened area and approach the seal to make it move again.
Keep following the seal until it stops and a new beam gun appears on top. Then, move the camera up and to the right and pull the handle to lower the gun. Pick up the sphere again and throw it at the turret to make it fire a volley and open the door ahead. The gif below shows how to do this.
Go to the second seal. You will also find a pyrocule here. Take the second seal to the center of the main hall. This will solve the puzzle by activating the first furnace. A precious chest will appear and an air current will appear, which you can use to get out, grabbing another pyrocule along the way.
Fire Flame Furnace in the North (2)
Travel to the northernmost point of the central island, then continue north to the dilapidated tower ahead. Then transform into an Ictomysaur and scan the round structure at the top, holding down the attack button to open the grate. Go inside and loot the contents of a regular chest.
As a result, the floor beneath you will collapse. Start going down, getting into the ancient ruins. Run forward to the seal. Suddenly, an enemy will appear. Hide behind the stone on the left and turn into an Ictomysaurus (if you haven't already). Then shoot the blue crystal on the right and scan the circle above, thereby opening the passage.
Make a powerful jump, fly into the hole, go down and disable the turret. Then you will start going down on the elevator. You will see a secret room during the descent, where there is a regular chest – fly in there, and then jump down. The whole process is shown in the gif above.
Once at the bottom, go into the spacious cave, restoring the phlogiston along the way, and then approach the seal, which will rise up and another turret will appear. When it shoots the crystal, the circle below will merge. At this point you will need to jump up and scan the circle.
As a result, the seal will go down, and a platform will appear from under the ground – jump on it. Then make another jump and touch the rune, which will allow you to move outside, where you will automatically activate a new teleport. The entire process of solving the puzzle is shown in the gif above.
Once you reach the top of the cliff, engage the automaton and deal with it. Then open the rich chest and touch the second seal. Start flying down after it, going down a long pipe. You will find yourself in a cave. Open the door ahead by pressing the switch and release another rune. As a result, you will activate the second furnace. Don't forget to open the precious chest.
Fire Flame Furnace in the West (3)
Travel to the northwest teleport point, then turn around to find a bunch of Tepetlisaurs hiding under a giant skeleton from Void-possessed monsters. Take out the enemies and open the rich chest. Watch the short cutscene where the Saurians break the walls in the rock, opening a passage for you. You will also unlock the Make Room! achievement.
Then go through the resulting passage, collecting the pyrocule along the way. Run down the tunnel, and then jump into the hole, where you can see the phlogiston river. After going down, turn into a tepetilisaur, and then jump onto the island below, use the skill of the saurian (the “E” key) and perform an attack to dig up a regular chest.
Use the Saurian's ability again and move underground to the south, getting close to the red cube on the edge of the ledge – attack it (LMB) to activate it. Jump down and hit two more cubes, then go to the other side and activate the last cube, thereby unlocking the passage ahead.
Proceed forward, interact with the switch to open the grated door and enter the room. Here, deal with the ruin thresher and open the rich chest behind it. Then approach the glowing seal and touch it – it will float through the barrier and rise up.
Transform into a Tepetlizaur using the yellow transformation stone and enter the hole in the wall to immediately rise up. Here, touch the seal again, and then get on the elevator and go down. Here you will find a second seal – touch it, and then go up again, like last time. Use the elevator again – this time it will take you up.
At the top, you will find two seals – touch them again to make them fly into the main room. This will activate the third furnace and get a precious chest. Use the air flow to fly outside and collect the Pyrocule.
Fire Flame Furnace in the Southeast (4)
You will need to get to the remote island located in the southeast. To do this, turn into a cornucopia on top of Ochkanatlan, then recharge with phlogiston and start flying southeast to the first teleport. There, restore phlogiston again and fly to the second teleport point. The entire route is shown in the images below.
Then run to the east of the island and deal with the Cryo Void Mage, and then interact with the device in the center to see the location of the two seals. Then turn around, transform into a cornucopia using the red transformation stone and fly to the top of the stone column (pick up red flames to restore phlogiston) in order to touch the first rune.
Now you will need to go down, under the island, and find the second seal there – touch it. Do not forget to pick up the red lights, otherwise you may run out of phlogiston and fall.
Next, return to the device where you defeated the mage earlier. It should be painted green – interact with it and engage in battle with the ruin thresher. After dealing with it, watch the cutscene. Then take the luxurious chest and use the air flow to collect the pyrocule.
Fire Flame Furnace in the East (5)
Travel to the teleporter you opened earlier, transform into a cornucopia, and then fly to the eastern island, restoring phlogiston along the way with the red lights. The screenshots below show the entire route.
After reaching the island, climb the cliff, deal with the hilichurls and touch the first seal hanging above the dilapidated column. Watch the cutscene, then jump down. Deal with the ruin dragon and open the rich chest.
Then turn into a coholasaurus and hit the blue circle hanging above the water. Start hitting the next circles that appear ahead in the same way. You will have to sometimes make high jumps and hit targets in flight. At the end, a phlogiston flow will appear – climb on it and ride it to a high island, where you can unlock a new teleporter. The video below shows how to do this.
After activating the teleportation point, go left, open the precious chest and touch the second seal (it is not necessary to fight the local legend Bronze Castle located here). Watch a short video, after which you will unlock the “Flame Kindling” achievement if you followed our order of activating the furnaces. Return to the previous island and take the rich chest.
How to Get the Flute of Espical
Once all 5 Fire Flame Furnaces have been activated, return to the old sword we showed you at the very beginning of the guide. Then interact with it to be transported to a secret area in the clouds. Here you will find a luxurious chest.
Go a little further and you will see the one-handed sword Flute Espical hanging in the air. Feel free to take it. It is a 4-star weapon for Defense. Congratulations, you have completely completed this puzzle.
