At the end of Davrin's quest chain in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, you'll be faced with an important choice that will help him become a Veilguard Legend. Once you find and free the griffins, you will have to make a decision: release them to defend Arlathan Forest or return them to the Grey Wardens.

Release the griffins to protect the forest or return them to the Grey Wardens
After you and Davrin defeat the Grim Mourner during the quest “Corrupted and Forgotten”, you will be able to free all the griffins.
However, you will have to decide for yourself whether to return them to the Grey Wardens, or release them to Arlathan Forest.
They need to return to the Wardens
If you choose this option, you will convince Davrin to return the griffins to the Grey Wardens in Hossberg.
Assan will also have a choice to stay with Davrin or go with the rest of the griffins. Either way, he will stay with Davrin and your team.
Upon completion of the quest, Davrin will become a Veilguard Legend, and will also receive the legendary armor “Gray Patron” and a unique skill “Reliable Defense”.
Reliable Defense and Gray Patron enhance Burn/Debuff builds, such as a team with the mage Rook and Taash. Although this build takes a long time to activate, since you first need to apply enough Burn stacks, it allows you to deal gigantic damage to enemies via explosion.

By choosing this answer, you will be able to convince Davrin to release the griffins so that they can help protect Arlathan.
Assan will also remain with Davrin, and Davrin himself will receive the title of Veilguard Legend, but other rewards: the legendary armor“Patron of the Forest” and the skill “Battle Master”.
The Master of Combat and Patron of the Forest are especially good for builds with high Sap. Staggering a target and then exploding it with Davrin is a valuable source of AoE stagger, allowing for crowd control with stuns and chaining in finishing moves.
