As you complete companion quest lines in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, you'll have to make important decisions about their lives. At the end of all of Emmrik's quests, you will need to decide between resurrecting Manfred or fulfilling Emmrik's dream of becoming a lich.
We will tell you in our guide whether to help Emmrik become a lich or bring Manfred back to life.
Bring Manfred back to life or let Emmrik become a lich
The opportunity to make a choice will be provided at the end of Emmrik's final companion quest “Slaughter of Souls”. During which Manfred will die at the hands of the mad Hezenkoss.
Upon returning with Emmrik to the Necropolis for the ritual of resurrecting Manfred to life, you will learn about the need to make a choice: Manfred or the fulfillment of Emmrik's dream.
Bring back Manfred
To make Emmrik give up his cherished wish for Manfred, choose the option “Return Manfred”.
Emmrik will agree with you, after which the quest“Heir of the Dead” will start.. Return with Emmrik to the Necropolis to perform the ritual to resurrect Manfred together.
After the ritual and returning to the Lighthouse with Manfred, Emmrik will become a Veilguard Legend.
Along with this, Emmrik will receive the legendary armor “Engraved Robes” and the new skill “Spark of Life” as a reward.

The skill and armor gained from resurrecting Manfred are geared towards low health gameplay, which may cause issues for some players who are not used to such restrictions. However, it is still worth making this choice, as the damage increases provided are quite high.
Become a Lich
If you choose the option “Become a lich”, Emmrik will agree to let Manfred go and finally decide to become a lich. You will receive a new quest “The Testament” and after a short conversation at the Lighthouse, go to the Necropolis to perform the necessary ritual.

After the ritual, Emmrik will return to the Lighthouse as an undead. He will become a Legend of the Veilguard and receive legendary armor “Vestment of the Lich” and the skill “Death's Embrace”. Note that turning into an undead will not affect the main ending of the game and the possibility of a romance with the mage.
Thanks to the specified bonuses, Emmrik will start to apply Necrosis better and deal more damage to them. He will be able to debuff enemies more easily without having to control Rook's health to get the maximum benefit. In terms of gameplay, this option will still be simpler.
