Mechanics Potion brewing appeared in the second part of the Halloween update in99 Nights in the Woodsand became one of the most interesting features in the world of the game. Now players can feel like real witches and wizards, experiment with ingredients, brew potions and use them on themselves and others. Below is everything you need to know about the brewing process, the types of ingredients and where you can get them.
Potion Brewing Basics in 99 Nights in the Woods
The potion cauldron is located near your camp fire, next to the crafting table. Above the cauldron the required ingredients for the current recipe are displayed. The player's task is to find these objects and throw them inside. After successfully completing the brewing, the cauldron produces one random potion and 5 to 15 candiesthat can be spent in the Halloween store.

If you throw in the wrong ingredients, the cauldron will explode, knocking you back and destroying items. The potion is not created, and the player receives minor damage and temporary poisoning if he is too close to the cauldron.
The color of the liquid in the cauldron reflects the approximate type of effect of the future potion. Like all Halloween updates, the effects are tied to the game Trick or Treat:
- Green color– most often a favorable effect (Sweetness)
- Red color – mixed result, 50/50 chance
- Purple color – mostly negative effect (Nasty)

How to use potions
Once prepared, the potion can be taken from the cauldron and used on yourself or thrown at another player. The effect depends on the randomness and color of the liquid. Examples of effects:
- Acceleration of movement
- No satiety consumption
- Turning into a frog (inability to use items)
- Attaching a heavy cannonball on a chain to the leg
- Losing all items from inventory
- Applying a pumpkin mask that blocks the view

The duration of the effects varies, and the exact formulas are not specified in the game, which makes the brewing process as experimental as possible.
Ingredients for brewing potions
All ingredients in 99 Nights in the Forest are divided into two categories: common and rare. Most potions require a combination of three items from these groups to create.
Common ingredients
| Name | How to get |
|---|---|
Morsel (piece of meat)
| Drops from most animals: rabbits, wolves, bears, scorpions, frogs |
Bunny Foot
| Drops when killing rabbits |
Coal
| Can be found throughout the map and in buildings |
Mackerel (mackerel)
| Caught in reservoirs using any fishing rod |
Steak
| Drops from wolves, bears, mammoths, polar animals |
Berry
| Collected from berry bushes |
Rare ingredients
These plants cannot be found without the help of a Fairy. She can plant seeds of special plants in exchange for 10 regular flowers. After purchasing seeds and a short cutscene, the player is shown the place where the desired type of plant will appear.
| Name | Where to look | How to collect |
|---|---|---|
Dripleaf (Hard sheet)
| Near ponds, most often found on bonfire levels 3-6 | Go up and click to pick a flower |
Moonflower
| In the forest, after the Fairy plants the seeds | Collected only at night by hitting the glowing plant with an ax |
Stareweed (Star Grass)
| At the foot of the watchtowers | Shine a flashlight on the plant and click to collect |
Cave Vine
| In dungeons and caves with missing children | Hit with an ax to collect |
Mandrake Plant
| Around Halloween houses | Click on the blue flower to pull out the root |
In order for the Fairy to plant these plants, she needs to give 10 ordinary flowers. Without this, the ingredients will not appear on the map. Therefore, stock up on colors for each ingredient.
