You come to your senses in the Great Hall of the Dark Sanctum – this is the first real puzzle of Silent Hill f, and how you cope with it will determine not only further progress, but also your first acquaintance with the mechanics of the game.
In front of the altar there are five objects that need to be placed on stands: at different difficulty levels the placement method is different and your only clue is a poem.
How to start the altar puzzle
After you defeat enemies near the store with sweets “chisel” and lose consciousness, Hinako wakes up inside the temple, after which he will approach the altar – this is the beginning of the first puzzle. The altar is located 5 stands for offers, and in the bowls next to them are ritual objects : a fan, a vessel, a rat wrapped in a sheet, a bird in a kimono and a fish wrapped in paper.

The solution of the riddle depends on the chosen complexity of the game:

The plot
This is a basic version. The main thing here is to compare the nodes on objects with nodes painted on the stands.
how to solve:
- Take and inspect each of the objects. Each of the nodes differs.
- Then look at the stands in front of the altar – different nodes are drawn there.
Put the items in the following order (left to right):
- Bird in kimono → Rat (upper stand) → Vasud → Fish (upper stand) → Fan
They will take their places, you will hear a characteristic sound – this means that the riddle is solved.
Complex
Now there are no knots, instead of them the stands have pictures of plants and flowers. Your task is to carefully examine the patterns on objects and find matches with these plants/flowers.
Correct order (left to the right):
- Bamboo – Fan
- Wood – Fish (upper stand)
- Chrysanthemum – vessel
- Plum flowers – bird in the kimono (upper stand)
- Kuzzu leaves – rat
If you are afraid Confuse, just move from left to right along the altar and put objects in this order. After installing the last item, the riddle will be solved.

This is the most difficult option. There are no symbols on the stands here, and you need to navigate by the riddle poem:
Kudzu, respected by everyone and the leader of the people, married Pine. Plum, everyone's favorite and always the center of attention, married Bamboo. Chrysanthemum, who had no dear friend, spent her days studying with Kudzu and became known as the Sage of the East. May our clan prosper forever.
In the poem, hints of the location of objects are encrypted. Each flower or plant is associated with a certain object:
- A bird in a kimono – on its outfit, the flowers of plum are depicted. The poem says that the plum has always been in the spotlight, so we put the kimono in the center.
- The vessel is depicted at the bottom of a chrysanthemum, which is called the “sage of the East.” The east is the right side of the altar, so we put the vessel on the right.
- Rat – wrapped in Kuzu leaves, and the poem says that Kuzu is associated with the pine. Put the rat on the right of the top.
- Fish – wrapped in paper with pine pattern. She should stand next to Kuza: put the fish to the left of the rat.
- The fan remains the last item; if you look closely, bamboo is depicted along its side parts. The poem mentions that Plum married Bamboo. According to Japanese traditions, the husband should be on the right hand of his wife, so we place the fan to the left of the vessel.
Final order on the left to the right:
- Fan → Fish (upper stand) → Kimono → Rat (upper stand) → Vessel
What will happen after the solution
When all the items take their places, you will hear a deep rumble, and the room will begin to be filled with red fog. Hinako will begin to gradually lose his mind, the screen tremble, and the sounds are distorted, but do not panic. It is important to do everything technically and quickly here.
