Never Dies in Genshin Impact: How to Find and Defeat

In Genshin ImpactThe Never Dies enemy is one of the local legends of Natlan, awaiting players with the Trial of Might in the Realm of Night. The blows of this ghostly capybara deal a huge amount of damage, and its signature move instantly breaks any shields. To deal with the enemy, the player will have to perform moves with high interruption – we will talk about how to do this in our guide.

Next, we will tell you how to find and defeat the Never Dies in Genshin Impact, as well as fulfill the conditions for obtaining his three named achievements from the Duelist I collection.

Never Dies Achievements: How to Unlock All

Never Dies in Genshin Impact: How to Find and Defeat

The local legend “Never Dies” has three special conditions, upon meeting which the player will unlock the following named achievements:

  • Achievement 1 (+5 Primogems): defeat “Never Dies” for the first time;
  • Achievement 2 (+10 Primogems): Defeat the Never Dies without being hit by its special technique;
  • Achievement 3 (+20 Primogems): Defeat the Never Dies by interrupting its special technique at least 3 times.

To get all the achievements, you will have to fight the capybara at least three times. You cannot complete all the requirements in one fight.

Where is the Never Dies

The Spectral Beast is located in the Night Realm, and the obsidian obelisk teleports to itlocated in front of a small lake on Mount Coatepec, east of the Temple of the Ancestors.

The Capybara fight is a “Test of Might” where the player will have to use heavy moves to interrupt the Never Dies' charged attacks. The player will have to dodge frequently to avoid being hit by the dangerous beast's attacks, and use charged attacks or reaction damage in time to avoid the “Special Technique: Giant Clash”.

Never Dies' Combat Moves

The Phantom Dragonslayer is capable of actively attacking and pursuing its opponent, delivering rapid blows with high damage. It has no ranged attacks, but this does not prevent the capybara from quickly closing the distance with the target and using surprise attacks – all thanks to the wide hitbox (“hit zone”) of the game model.

  • Close combat

If you are standing close enough, the capybara can attack you with a swing of its head, dealing a medium amount of damage.

  • Dash attacks

One of the “acceleration” techniques is a dash push, which the Dragon Slayer can use by simply getting close and making a quick leap forward.

The capybara can also use a chain of two previous attacks, during which you need to dodge two repeated dashes (the enemy can change the direction of the second blow if its target deviates to the side).

The last technique “frontal” is a rapid dash forward, before which the “Never Dying” stops briefly, reconciles itself to the trajectory, and then quickly runs to the target, at the end sharply accelerating and hitting the character with his head.

  • “Special Technique: Giant Clash”

The Dragon Slayer's key attack requires a small recharge: during this time, the beast stops and begins to move dynamically, surrounded by a purple haze. As soon as the charge of the technique ends, the capybara will rush to the target with lightning speed and make at least three slashing blows, similar to dashes from Xiao's E-shki.

The Best Squads

Oddly enough, one fairly simple tactic will work to get all three achievements: you take any characters that are convenient for you and one two-handed sword, the level of which is not lower than 60 (this is provided that the capybara is the maximum level 103). Charged attacks of such heroes very easily cope with the interruption of “Giant Clash”.

A unit with a claymore can take any slot in the squad, but it is better not to put low-level characters in the positions of the main damage dealer or healer. An alternative is to actively use the Overload reaction or charged attacks of spearmen or one-handed warriors, but with a two-handed warrior, interruption is easiest to implement.

Let's look at some squad options and gameplay features:

There are very few Claymore wielding heroes among epic heroes. If you give such a hero the support position, then Noelle will do – she will distribute a few shields and will be able to interrupt the charging of a special technique (almost any pack can be built around her, for example, a bunch of Yan Fei and Xing Qiu for damage + Bennett for a buff, increased pyro reactions and a small heal).

And if you choose an epic two-handed sword for the damage dealer position, then Ka Ming will do. Put a couple of support characters in his squad that enhance pyro attacks (for example, Xiangling + Fischl for reactions) and a healer like Kuki – the heroine will increase survivability and add profit to damage from Overload.

Kazuha

If you have a large number of Geo characters and have managed to get Itto (or Navia) Albedo and Zhongli, then your squad will easily cope with all the “pitfalls” of the battle against the capybara: a strong DD with a claymore will easily knock down the concentration of the enemy's special technique, and the rest of the squad will help multiply the damage to the immobilized target and increase the defense of the entire pack.

The second variant of the squad with Eimiya, Raiden and Chevreuse involves active use of the Overload reaction. When the enemy starts preparing for a special move, you need to spam as many pyro and electric strikes as possible, simultaneously inflating the damage with Kazuha.

Below we highlight individual heroes whose skills will give you an additional advantage in the fight with the “Never Dying”:

Anemo Archon will help you avoid attacks by the capybara, creating an E-air flow and hovering above the ground for a long time during a special technique (makes it easier to get the second achievement).

Jin is able to lift the enemy with E-shka and deal a lot of damage from the fall (keep in mind that the effectiveness of the technique depends on the level of pumping the heroine).

E Lan's E is good at dodging any enemy attacks – if you press it in time, the capybara will not be able to catch up with the character. Linette is a good alternative for these same tasks.

The Wanderer's elemental skill allows him to rise high enough to avoid enemy damage. His hover duration is enough to completely outlast the duration of the special technique.

Xian Yun ensures the survivability of the squad, easily flies away from the enemy with the help of E-shka and increases the jump height of the entire pack with the ult – this is a plus for maneuverability.

Kokomi is a versatile healer with a high HP pool, so she can withstand damage from an inevitable attack. The heroine effectively heals and can even break the enemy's concentration if you use her ultimate in time and spam heavy charged attacks.

Ororon has a special night spirit mechanic that allows the hero to hover above the ground and shoot at the same time, and his E and ult will come in handy in overload squads.

How to defeat the “Never Dying”

As mentioned above, you can get all three achievements in the battle with the “Never Dying” in the same way: try to avoid attacks while the capybara is chasing you, then break its Special Technique concentration and deal as much damage as possible to the immobilized enemy.

Note that while the enemy is active, it can also be attacked (damage is the same as with a lying target) – just dodge the attacks in time and do not lose sight of the target.

The “Giant Clash” tactic will be interrupted in the following cases:

  • With a charged attack with a two-handed sword (less stable, but works: spear, one-handed blade, or some catalyst heavy moves);
  • By activating the Overload reaction – if you unleash a constant stream of pyro and electric strikes on the enemy, this will prevent the “Giant Clash” from starting.

The video below shows the fastest way to stop the Dragon Slayer's most powerful move:

Tips for Dodging the Giant Clash

The Giant Clash is fast and unpredictable, so the easiest way to dodge it is in flight mode. Another option is to use fast movement techniques, such as Mualani's E.

Remember that the enemy can easily break even the thickest shields and any geo-constructions, so you won’t be able to take cover on them. Freeze Reaction won't be able to hold back the enemy for long either.

How to Replay the Never Dies Fight

Never Dies in Genshin Impact: How to Find and Defeat

After winning or interrupting the challenge (English key “P” on PC), your hero will be transported to the obsidian obelisk, with which you can leave the Kingdom of Night or repeat the battle with the ghostly enemy. If you left the location through the map, return to the lake in the east of Mount Coatepec and re-enter the black stone, which will transport you to the place of the battle with the Dragonslayer.
