It's pretty easy to find the key when completing the “Under the Crystal” quest – the spiritual path itself will lead us out of the flooded cave into the ruins, where this item will be waiting for us in place of the golden glow. You can find out more in this walkthrough.
What is it for
The key must open something, and this something is in an underground location, which becomes available according to the plot of the same quest “Under the Crystal”.
We teleport to one of the Shadow Needles and look around the cave, where you can see something similar to a passage near one of the walls.
We head there and see a grate, and next to it a switch on a box. This is what this key is for. We interact with the lever to raise the grate and get two regular and one precious chest.
