As with Bellora, Lucanis will join your party pretty early in the game (around 2-3 hours in), when you take on the story quest “Sea of Blood”, where you need to find a mage killer called the Demon of Vyrantium, so you can't miss him.
As for the requirements for developing a romance, this is a bit more complicated, since you can accidentally partially close this opportunity for yourself by choosing the wrong option after completing the quest “The Guardian's Best Friend”. When you need to decide which city to save, be sure to choose “We will help Treviso.”
If you go to Mirantos, Lucanis will receive the “Fierce” status and leave your party for a while, which will make it harder for you to continue the romance with him, and sometimes it will be completely impossible if you have not developed his love branch enough before.
Tips for Strengthening Relationships with Lucanis
We should note right away that you may not attach much importance to the approval rating, since it is mainly required to increase the level of combat comradeship and open additional skill points, that is, you will be able to develop a love relationship with this companion even with not very high indicators of this parameter.
How then to express your love for the mage killer? It's quite simple – you need to choose answers with the heart icon whenever possible, thereby flirting with the character and directly showing him your intentions. The picture below shows an example of such an answer. In the section with approvals, we have indicated all the correct dialogue options.
Naturally, it is also necessary to complete Lucanis' personal quests. In fact, they allow you to advance your romance with him. We will examine this aspect in more detail below.
Development of the romance with Lucanis
As we indicated above, this hero will be with you almost from the very beginning of the game, so his personal quest is also one of the first to be issued – the task “Coffee with Crows” can be obtained after completing the story missions “Sea of Blood” and “The Case of the Smuggled Relic”. You will just need to visit him at the Lighthouse (this must be done before the start of “The Guardian's Best Friend”, otherwise access to the quest will be closed). During this quest, be sure to say “It's like a goodbye kiss, huh?”.
Important: Regularly visit the Lighthouse after completing story quests and look at the map for additional icons near the portrait of Lucanis. They indicate the possibility of dialogue with the character or taking a quest from him. During such conversations, choose the lines with a heart.
After completing his first quest, you will be able to continue flirting with the Demon of Vyrantium, and after a while, take on the next mission called “Farewell”. Then complete the main quest “A Warden's Best Friend” and be sure to help Treviso. When you complete “The Siege of Weisshaupt” and start “After the Storm”, you will have the opportunity to complete Lucanis's third quest – “Bloodbath”.
After completing this task, return to the Lighthouse and talk to Lucanis. A cutscene will start in which you will have to express your romantic interest in him by choosing the answers “I don't mind” and “I like the mess”. After that, in the “Companions” section under the relationship level with him, the inscription “Sympathy” and an icon in the form of a heart will appear.
Next, you will need to complete the story mission “Fire and Ice” and Lucanis' fourth quest “Inner Demons” (it is given after receiving the quests “Restless Spirits” and “Walking on Graves” from Emmrik). Return to his room in the Lighthouse and participate in the conversation between the two men. Be sure to tell him:
- “You're cute, you know” – this will oblige you to continue the romance only with Lucanis.
All other options will lead to the interruption of the romantic relationship with the mage killer. So, after choosing the right answer, you will see a short cutscene with Lucanis, and in the “Companions” section near the relationship level, the status “In love” will appear. From this point on, it will no longer be possible to cancel the romance, but you will be able to unlock additional scenes by progressing through the story and completing the remaining personal quests of the hero.
For example, the fifth task – “Killing a Raven” – will become available almost immediately after completing the previous quest (you need to re-enter the Lighthouse several times), and then you can immediately proceed to Lucanis' final mission “A Minute of Peace”, thereby seeing almost all possible scenes with him (they are shown in the video below). Be sure to choose the heart answers during the final story missions.
Interesting fact: If you do not romance either Lucanis or Nev, both characters will fall in love with each other, and you will be able to watch their lovemaking at the Lighthouse.
