In Dragon Age The VeilguardEmmrik's romance is one of the possible love branches in the game. To start and progress it, you need to fulfill certain conditions, including completing the companion's personal quests and choosing the right answer options in dialogues with him. In this guide, we will tell you how to do this and gain the approval of the necromancer.
Key Features of the Emmrik Romance in The Veilguard
Joining the Companion to the Party and Requirements for Starting the Romance
After completing the events in Minrathous or Treviso, your group will begin to search for Emmrik due to his extensive knowledge of Fade magic. He will automatically join you after you complete the story quest “Where the Dead Go”. Thus, you will not have to perform any additional actions.
Besides, there are no special requirements for this character to become Rook's romantic interest, meaning you can start showing love interest to the mage almost immediately, as soon as you have the opportunity.
Tips for Strengthening Relationships with Emmrik
We should note right away that you can not attach much importance to the approval rating, since it is mainly required for increasing the level of combat comradeship and opening additional skill points, meaning you will be able to develop a love relationship with this necromancer even with low indicators of this parameter.
How then to express your love for the sorcerer? It's quite simple – you need to choose answers with the heart icon whenever possible, thereby flirting with Emmrik and directly showing him your intentions. The picture below shows an example of such an answer. In the section with approvals, we have indicated all the correct dialogue options.
Naturally, you also need to complete Emmrik's personal quests. In fact, they allow you to advance your romance with him. We will examine this aspect in more detail below.
Developing a Romance with Emmrik
As we noted above, this hero will join you closer to the second half of the game, so his first personal quest “Walking Through the Graves” can only be taken after completing the story missions “Shadows of Evil” and “Something's Wrong”. You will simply need to visit him at the Lighthouse and talk to him.
Important: Regularly visit the Lighthouse after completing story quests and look at the map for additional icons near Emmrik's portrait. They indicate the possibility of starting a dialogue with the character or taking a quest from him. During such conversations, choose the lines with a heart.
After completing his first quest, you can continue flirting with the necromancer. After completing the story mission “The Case of the Cobbled Swan”, which awaits you in the second half of the game, talk to him again at the Lighthouse (you may have to do this several times) to take on the second quest called “The House of the Dead”.
Then, be sure to visit Emmrik again in his room at the Lighthouse and during a conversation with him, select the answer “I find you charming”, demonstrating to him that you have an interest in developing a love relationship without obligations. That's when the inscription “Liking” and an icon in the form of a heart will appear under the level of relations with him in the “Companions” section.
Once you complete the story mission “Fire and Ice”, you will have the opportunity to complete Emmrik's third personal quest – “Agreements”. It is within this quest that you will find a key moment in developing your relationship with the mage. When he asks you who you would like him to be, say:
- “Not alone” – this will oblige you to continue the romance only with Emmrik.
All other options will lead to the interruption of the romantic relationship with the necromancer. So, having chosen the right answer, you will see a small cut-scene with Emmrik, and in the “Companions” section near the relationship level the status “In love” will appear. From this moment on, it will no longer be possible to cancel the romance, but you will be able to unlock additional scenes by progressing through the story and completing the remaining personal quests of the hero.
For example, the fourth task – “Sacrifice of Souls” – will become available after completing the story quest “Blood of Arlathan”, and then you can immediately proceed to Emmrik's final mission “Heir of the Dead” (allowed him to become a lich) or “Will and Testament” (revived Mannfred), thereby seeing almost all possible scenes with him. You can watch them in the video below.
Fun fact: Emmrik will start a relationship with Strife, the leader of the Veiled Wanderer, unless you complete the necromancer's quest chain and make him your love interest. You can watch the characters interact at the Lighthouse.
A Gift for Emmrik
We also recommend that you definitely buy a unique gift for the mage. We are talking about the Possessed Statuette, which you can buy from a merchant in the Sorrow Watch camp in the Halls of the Necropolis. To do this, you will have to spend 60 gold and 10 flawless crystals.
