A pistol is, of course, good, but going through the dark corridors in Silent Hill 2 becomes much calmer with a shotgun in your hands. Its poor accuracy is compensated by high damage and pellet spread, so it performs best at close range.
Where to get a shotgun in Silent Hill 2
In the remake, you can find a shotgun in Brookhaven Hospital, where Laura takes us. The weapon is on the second floor of the building in the women's locker room. However, you won't be able to get to this room right away. First, you need to get the key to the basement from the locker in the emergency room. Second, you need to go down to the basement and turn on the generator.
Once the generator in the basement is working, take the elevator up to the second floor of the hospital. After a short scene, explore all available rooms in the west wing. Don't forget to open the door to the stairs and save in room C3. The lower door to the corridor (near the stairs) will be closed, so go back and use the door opposite Maria's room to get to the main hall of the second floor.
In the main hall, examine the combination lock from the nurses' station and take the hint on the glass. After that, go down to the director's office, not forgetting to look into the laundry room along the way. In the director's office there is a safe and a save point.
After leaving the office, turn left. Explore all available rooms and turn right in front of ward M1. Almost at the end of the corridor, you will see a half-open door to the women's locker room, and in it – an iron cabinet with a shotgun.
About the shotgun
The shotgun in Silent Hill 2 Remake is a prototype of the famous pump-action shotgun Remington 870. On the left side of the weapon in the game you can find the inscription “E.H. Marlin», which is a reference to Ernest Hemingway's novella “The Old Man and the Sea” (in the novella, the main character fights a huge marlin).
The shotgun holds 6 rounds. It takes a long time to reload, so it is advisable to refill the clip in advance before the next encounter with monsters. To inflict maximum damage on enemies, let them get closer. At medium and long range, the shotgun is less effective.
