In Genshin Impact“The Man Who Abandoned the Past” is a world quest added to the Nod's End game content with patch 6.2 (Moon III). The assignment introduces us to the personal story of Yagoda and her former partner Ihanty: while returning stolen items, she learns about the thief’s serious condition and faces the consequences of their common past. In this guide, we will analyze in detail the key stages of completing the final mission of the Information Exchange journal.
Completing the quest “The Man Who Threw Away the Past”
“The Man Who Threw Away the Past” is a direct continuation of the special world quest chain Curatorium of Secrets, available after transferring intelligence data to Katerina’s “Information Exchange” journal. To unlock the mission, make sure to complete the previous stages in order:
- Haunted Pirate Ship Wreck;
- Riot Caused by Theft;
- Missing Order Target;
- Strange Hermit;
- The Man Who Cheated Once (most likely not required to complete).
As soon as you complete the above tasks of the general chain, talk with Katerina in Nashgorod, select the “Information Exchange” replica and unlock the quest for Yagoda’s portrait “Man, ▮▮▮▮▮”. In the starting dialogue, Yagoda submits the previous assignment to the Guild, notices the Ihanty pendant among the awards and, despite the modest payment, undertakes to fulfill his request. Katerina gives the details, after which the Traveler and Paimon join the task.
Follow the task together with Yagoda: defeat the Treasure Thieves
Go to quest mark near the teleport in the south of Star Shoal: having found a gang of Treasure Thieves, Yagoda tries to peacefully buy back the stolen things from them, but negotiations end in failure. Subdue the villains using a squad of 5 units (with an archer joining in)) – as a result of the battle, we return the drawing and the doll, and the beaten kidnappers indicate the place where Ihanty was last seen.
Talk to Ihanty
Move to the coast west of the battle with the kidnappers and find Ikhanti near the container on the iron outbuilding. Finding the man in serious condition, Yagoda returns his things, after which a frank conversation follows: the thief admits that he will soon die. He remembers their past “work”, talks about the family, asks to put the drawing in his pocket and gives Yagoda the doll he made as a last gift. At the end, he asks to leave him, referring to Nefer’s rule – “He who seeks peace deserves peace”. And Yagoda, albeit reluctantly, accepts his decision.
Return to the Adventurers Guild
Berry with The traveler returns to Katerina to report on the assignment and receive a reward. Subsequently, she explains who Ihanty was to her, and says that she helped him only out of a sense of duty, but internally decides to still get the medicine and visit him later.
Wait until the next day (10:00 – 00:00): visit Ihanti again
After talking with Katerina, use the Time mechanic and rewind to 10:00 – 00:00 the next day (the setting will be set automatically if you select task tracking).
Return to the place, where the sick Ihanty was found earlier – now a letter will lie here, hastily scribbled by a thief. Read his last words and wishes for Yagoda, and then receive the reward for completing the task: 3 purple experience books, 21,500 mora and a Tattered Doll made by a thief.
Quest “Joint Assignment”: talk to Katerina
Immediately after the mission, if you have completed all the minor quests from the NPC with intelligence, a short epilogue “Joint Assignment” will become available – move to the Adventurers’ Guild in Nashgorod and listen to the dialogue between Katerina, Nefer, Sarin and Yagoda. Upon completion, you will receive a Integrated Intelligence – a collection identical to the one opened during the Exchange of Information with the Secretary.
