In Genshin Impact, the enemy “Tlatcakuilotl” is another local legend of the Pyro region, which can be fought in a special arena in the Realm of Night. This ghostly enemy, reminiscent of the large warriors of the Echo Children tribe, challenges players to complete a “Trial of Mobility” that will require them to time their dodges and counterattacks.
In this guide, we will tell you how to find and defeat Tlatzacuilotl, the explorer of the golden city in Genshin Impact, getting all three named achievements from the Duelist I collection. Learn how to dodge attacks correctly, destroy a shield in one attack, and win without taking damage from an enemy.
Tlatzacuilotl Achievements: How to Unlock All
During the battle against the incarnation of “Tlatzacuilotl”, you can get as many as three new achievements. To unlock the achievements, you will have to fulfill the corresponding conditions:
- First Achievement (+5 Primogems): Defeat Tlatzacuilotl for the first time;
- Second Achievement (+10 Primogems): Defeat Tlatzacuilotl by always breaking its shield with one attack;
- Third Achievement (+20 Primogems): Defeat Tlatzacuilotl without ever being hit by its attacks.
Remember that achievements from local legends cannot be obtained in one battle – you will have to complete at least three duels to unlock each one.
Where is Tlatzakuilotl?
To get to the arena of interest, head to the lower level in the northeastern half of the Sulfur Veins. The black obsidian that will teleport you to the Night Realm is hidden behind a stone wall inside the cliff – to clear the way, you will have to solve a small puzzle.
Pay attention to the map screenshot at the beginning of the point: near the rock in the marked place there is a phlogiston cube, to interact with which you will have to transform into a geo-saurian (point the camera at the dragon → “T” on PC), or use the elemental skills of Kachina or Shilonen. Push the amber ore, and then pass the test, the process of which we showed in the video below:
You need to sequentially push 6 pulsating areas. The puzzle is not limited in time, but if you hesitate, the process will fail and you will have to repeat it from the very beginning.
After solving the puzzle, a passage will appear in the wall, and in front of it there will be a rich chest. At the end of the opened cave there is a black monument, touching which will transport you to the Kingdom of Night.
The fight against “Tlatcakuilotl” is a “Test of Mobility” – if you dodge the enemy's attacks in time, you will receive stacks and be able to counterattack, causing increased damage.
Tlatcakuilotl Combat Techniques
The Phantom Explorer has several moves, half of which are dynamic melee combos. Let's take a closer look at what the Tlatzacuillotl can do:
- Geo Boulder Attack
This is the only long-range attack, during which the enemy creates a golden boulder, swings his saw, and sends the structure forward. If it hits, you will receive geo damage.
- Single Slash
The shortest melee attack resembles a slash, during which the enemy raises the weapon above his head and then plunges it down at an acute angle.
- Combo Chains
The Ghost Explorer has several combos in his arsenal. The shortest is a chain of three hits, during which the enemy can change direction depending on the target's movement. The final attack plunges the saw into the ground, creating a small delay.
The second combo consists of 6 sweeping attacks, after which the enemy will need a longer respite. Most often, Tlatzacuillotl uses this combo after creating a shield.
Choosing a squad
In a fight with a ghostly explorer, it doesn’t matter who you take into your squad. However, we do not recommend choosing characters with slow strikes (catalysts or two-handers) and gameplay that is unusual for you. The attack speed will affect how quickly you can strike and dodge to the side so as not to be hit by a long weapon (especially during combos that can't be interrupted).

Some examples of slow attacking heroes include Neville, Eola, and most archers. A better option would be any one-handed sword hero.
How to defeat “Tlatzacuilotl”
In the fight against “Tlatzacuilotl” you do not need to rely on the damage and skills of your squad members. Instead, the player will have to actively use the mechanics of dodging, counterattacks and accumulation of special points, the number of which determines the strength of the blow to the enemy. The moment of dodging can be understood by light and sound signals, which occur simultaneously before any attack of the Explorer of the Golden City.
During a successful dodge (on «Shift» or RMB) time slows down, and a purple flash and a cloud with a number appear around the hero, displaying the number of successful attempts. Pay attention to the video demonstration:
You need to get used to timely dodging, because a lot depends on your reaction and device, which you are playing. If the hero is too far from the blow or dodges at the wrong time, the mechanics may not work.
Below we will give some universal tips that will help both in the first battle and in obtaining more difficult achievements:
- Listen to the sound that appears during the flash of light – this is one of the signals to dodge. Ideally, play with headphones or completely turn off the music volume in the settings;
- The maximum number of dodge points that can be collected is 6. Their number can be reset if you miss the timing of the strike for too long;
- If you feel that you cannot dodge, it is better to run to the side so as not to be hit by the sweeping attacks of the ghostly warrior. This advice is relevant to any combos, because they cannot be interrupted, even if you manage to dodge and hit the enemy in response;
- To get the third achievement, choose a hero with a low level and remove other characters from the squad – this will make it easier to notice the slightest damage, and after resurrection, immediately appear in front of the totem and restart the duel;
How to gain dodge stacks
Let's talk separately about the cloud with the number of dodge points: it appears near the character if you dodge the Researcher's attack in time – the more successful attempts you make, the higher this number will be (maximum: 6 stacks).
When fighting a level 103 ghost warrior, successfully dodging 6 times will allow you to counterattack for over 1 million damage – that's almost 80% of the enemy's HP.
To accumulate dodge points as quickly as possible, try to:
- Stand as close as possible. Don't run too far from the target – while the enemy is moving towards you to hit again, the accumulated stacks may disappear;
- If the warrior performs a combination of strikes, it is better to dodge the first one and run to the side, waiting for the remaining series of attacks. Or play a few trial fights to get used to the timing of flashes and animations of moves.
How to knock down a shield with one hit
If you knock down an enemy's HP to about 40%, he will activate a shield – a white bar under the health bar. According to the conditions of the second achievement, you need to try to destroy this protection in one attack. One stack will not be enough, so try to dodge at least three attacks of the enemy under the shield, and only then strike back. An example of how to do this is shown in the video below:
Remember: to break the enemy's defense with one hit, you need to accumulate 3 dodge points, and only then counterattack.
How to repeat the fight with “Tlatzakuilotl”
If you defeat an elite enemy in the Night Realm, or decide to interrupt the fight (English key “P” on PC), the character will be transported to the black totem outside the arena – with its help you can return to Teyvat or repeat the “Trial of Mobility” at any time.
