Tolindis in Genshin Impact is a character from the story of Kaenri'ah, the bride of Reri, one of the Sinners. In the article we will tell the story of the girl and reveal in more detail her connection with Reri and the Scarlet Moon.
The name Tolindis and connection with mythology
Unlike Reri, the name Tolindis is not based on a character from Norse myth. There are suggestions that the first part of the name is taken from the term “tholins” – these are organic compounds that have a reddish tint. This may be a reference to Tolindis' affiliation with the Scarlet Moon Dynasty. The second part – “dis” – denotes a female name, a noble lady or a guardian spirit.
If you remember the story of the mythological Reri, he also had a life partner, and their love story also ended tragic: his wife died during childbirth, and Reri died from an illness.
The Story of Tolindis
The girl first appears in Reri’s memories in the main story quest “The Country That Doesn’t Exist.”
The Tolindis family was indirectly connected to the Scarlet Moon Dynasty. Despite this, her appearance did not betray this connection in any way – for example, her violet-colored eyes were similar to the eyes of an ordinary person; the heirs of the Scarlet Moon Dynasty have pupils in the shape of a cross, like Harlequin. Only mentor Tolindis knew about this connection.
The girl worked at the Academy of Spells and explored the secrets of the Scarlet Moon era. She was the only scientist working on the Moonlights – the rest of the researchers were transferred to study the Abyss.
Tolindis was Reri's future bride. The man proposed to her, but the girl did not give a clear answer and asked to give her some time to think about everything.
Reri hid his real job from the bride and said that he was an ordinary warrior from the Dark King's guard.
Upon meeting Orlog, Tolindis learned that her fiancé was a Lunar Avenger from the Black Sun Dynasty. He hunted the descendants of the Scarlet Moon and exterminated them.
Tolindis believed in the best until the very end and hoped to convince her groom to leave his cruel job. Reri himself, having come across her name on the extermination lists, became disillusioned with his ruler.
Reri spared the life of one of his possible victims, Fritr. Tolindis gave the girl a fragment of the moon so that she would keep it and give people the opportunity to see the red moon again in the future.
On the day Dainsleif rebelled against the Dark King, Tolindis was at the Academy. The release of the energy of the Abyss led to the appearance of a huge number of monsters, from which the girl hid in her laboratory. When Reri appeared to save her, Tolindis mistakenly assumed that he wanted to get rid of her too. She told her groom that she had found a way to return him to a calm life, and disappeared into a mysterious portal, apparently found by her during her research.
Her disappearance led Reri to despair and became the impetus for him to become even more influenced by the Abyss and become a Sinner.
This is where Tolindis' story ends. It is likely that the consequences of her actions will be revealed in future updates – it is unknown, for example, whether the fragment of the moon she found was preserved before the events of the game, and whether it will still play a role in the plot.
