However, at first, access to it is completely blocked for players, so many are wondering how to get it. In this guide, we will give a detailed answer to it, and also tell you where you can find all the treasures, potions and other objects that give permanent bonuses to the character.
We will add that the game does not have a detailed map of the city, which makes it very difficult to study, because it turned out to be incredibly large – it is very easy to get lost in it and it is extremely difficult to find the necessary merchants or characters. For this reason, separate maps were created for Grayshaft, which are also presented in our guide.
Where to get a map in Of Ash and Steel
Let's start with the in-game method of obtaining a card. Yes, it really is in the game, but you will be able to access it only in the second chapter, after completing the “Return” task. At the end of it, you will find yourself on the shore, which you will probably remember from the Prologue, and you will find the necessary parchment there. After this, as in many other RPGs, you can instantly go to the map by pressing the “M” key.
However, your tests with the map will not end there, because most of it will be covered with a kind of “fog of war”, that is, key locations and objects will not be marked on it. To unlock them, you will need to complete the True Cartographer quest by visiting 11 viewpoints. We've covered this in detail in a separate guide.
World and city maps in Of Ash and Steel
However, if you don’t want to wait until the second chapter or are too lazy to search for all the viewpoints and need a map right here and now, then we recommend that you read the information below.
Map of the entire island
The image above shows a completely open map of the entire game world without user marks, displaying only important objects and locations such as camps, farms and small settlements. With it it will be much easier for you to navigate the area.
Map of the city of Grayshaft
The city in the game is incredibly large and on your first visit it is quite possible to get lost in it, but even after several visits and careful exploration of Grayshaft, you may sometimes have problems finding the right characters and merchants. At the same time, the game map looks underdeveloped when it comes to urban locations. Fortunately, users tried to correct this issue.
Steam user under the nickname biggeniy070prepared a very convenient map with the designation of almost all the key NPCs in the city (including merchants, blacksmiths, healers and gunsmiths), indicating their exact location with numbers. He took the base map as a basis, so it’s easier to interact with it.
However, the user under the nickname ValmarI decided to go even further and compiled a full-fledged map of the entire city, which is much easier to navigate. Almost all buildings are numbered indicating the characters that can be found in them.
Map of potions, bonuses and legendary weapons
In Of Ash and Steel, as in Gothic 2, for example, there are potions, books and other items that give permanent bonuses to certain characteristics. However, they are often very well hidden, making them extremely difficult to find on your own. If you have similar problems, we advise you to use the map presented below.

Treasure and resource maps
The game world of Ash and Steel is replete with all sorts of caches and secrets in which various treasures are hidden, including unique weapons and equipment. Various notes and clues often point to them, so you can try to find them yourself by simply exploring the locations, or use special maps indicating all the hidden treasures.
The Forgotten Land
For now, the map is only available starting location. It shows the location of all merchants, skill teachers, resources, caves, altars, potions, books, plant rings and amulets. The latter are designated by the letter “A”, and the number indicates the number of parameter points added by it.
Note that the map data was prepared by the user PVA. There will certainly be other regions in the future. It is possible that a full-fledged interactive map will also be created displaying all key items and objects. We will definitely add it to this guide.
