In Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, Count Ymir and the night swordsman Yolana are new characters who can be found in the cathedral Manus Metir. Not only will you be able to learn several unique spells from the High Priest, but you will also be able to complete his lengthy quest, which can bring you special equipment, a strong spirit and various enchantments.
Let us note that the storyline of Yolana, the count’s knight, is closely intertwined with this task, so here we will immediately describe her mission. Let's add that at the end you will have to decide what to give to the swordsman – the iris of Darkness or Grace, on which your reward will directly depend. Of course, we will describe all the available solutions and their consequences.
Completing the Ymir and Yolana quest in Shadow of the Edtree
How to get to Bonnie’s village
You can get there to this location only after you have dealt with Rellana, the Knight of the Double Moon, in Ensis Castle, and then go to Shadow Altus. Get to the Cross by the Road grace site, and then move north to find a piece of a map of the new area at the Guiding Stele. We immediately showed the entire route to the Manus Metir Cathedral in the screenshots below.
At the fork, turn right and start heading in a southeast direction until you reach the “Ruins of Murt” bliss site. From there, continue running due south until you see a small gorge among the ruins, through which you can go down the ledges. Then immediately turn around and you will see a hole in the ground leading to a small cave.
Down through the cave even deeper, going down the ledges and roof of the building, and then turn left to see the entrance to the tunnel – follow it to the southeast and climb the wooden ladder. You will eventually end up in Bonnie Village.
Where to find the “Oh Mother” gesture
You will need the “Oh Mother” gesture in the future, so We advise you to grab it now. From the “bonfire”, run east along the main road in the village, passing between dilapidated houses. When you reach the broken bridge, double jump to the other side, and then move north.
Exit the village and head towards the gnarled withered tree ahead. Near it you will find the gesture you need.
How to get to Manus Metir Cathedral
Having obtained the gesture, go back to the main road and continue on east – cross two bridges and activate the place of grace “Bridge Leading to the Village”. Now start running north until you reach the “Church Circle Route”. Be careful, as you will meet many wolves and a golem along the way.
At the fork, turn south and ride forward. You will soon reach the Manus Metir Cathedral. There will be no enemies waiting for you inside, so you can safely enter the building.
Where to find Count Ymir
Once inside the cathedral, activate the local “bonfire”, and then go to the throne room. Here on the throne you will find Count Ymir – chat with him. You will receive from him a Necklace with Holes and a Ruins Map, which shows the location of your next destination – Rhea's Finger Ruins.

You can talk to the High Priest again to ask him about magic and open access to the spell shop (new spells will appear as we progress through Ymir's quest). After talking with him, another character will appear behind the column – Yolana. We advise you to talk to her too. She will not be very friendly towards your hero. Enter into dialogue with the count again and ask him about the night swordsman.
Note: If Ymir is not on the throne, then you can find him in the small cemetery on the right side of the cathedral or simply restart the location by teleporting to another location and then returning back.
Head to the Ruins of Riya's Fingers and call toll the bell
The first map will point to the Ruins of the Abode of the Fingers of Riya, located east of the Temple of Solace. If you have not yet received a piece of the map of the South Coast, then we advise you to get it – it is located south of the place of grace “Côte d'Azur”. The image below shows the entire route.
Having obtained the map, run to the southeast, climb the slope, and you will reach the place of grace “Cross on the Côte d'Azur”. Then start moving north, northwest to reach a fallen stone building – climb up it and cross to the other side, then go down the slope and jump onto another collapsed building, which you can use to get to the shore.
Next, move along the sandy coast to the east and turn left to climb up the stone ruins and get to the edge of the Ruins of the Abode of the Fingers of Riya – activate the “bonfire” of the same name located here. Your next target is in the center of this giant crater – just go down the slope there, fighting huge palms along the way.
In the northern part of the ruins you will find a ritual site with a hanging bell – go up to it and ring it. You will receive a Talisman with Blood Seeds +1, which increases the effectiveness of Flasks of Crimson Tears.
Head to Dio's Finger Ruins and ring the bell
Once completed, return to Ymir, who will give you the Ruins Map (2nd) and the Priceless Stardust Talisman (greatly speeds up spell casting, but increases damage taken). Chat with the Count again and ask him about the nature of the world. Plus, he'll have new enchantments to sell. Don't forget to also chat with Jolana again, who will respond to you more friendly this time.
The second map will point to the Ruins of the Abode of Dio's Fingers, located east of the cathedral. You can get there through the Shadow Haven, but you don't have to fight the boss. Travel to the “Church Circle Path” and then move northwest to the “Church Circle Path” grace area.
Then go forward, jump onto the roof of the flooded building and start moving northwest. You will need to jump to another roof using the visor and sprint. Next, turn right, climb up the dilapidated wall and jump over to the ledge on the right.
Run west, jumping over to another roof, and then turn left and deal with the fire knight. Go to the left edge of the lower roof and jump onto the stone structure attached to the building – use it to climb up to the roof of the church. Now look for a hole in the roof and jump down onto the cross-shaped bridges below.
Once inside the building, jump down the rift in the floor to reach the floor below. Run forward and go through the open passage, then immediately turn left. Once outside, turn left again and go up the steps. Then use the wooden ladder to climb even higher and interact with the lever, which will remove the water from the location.
Return to the church and turn left. Run forward along the semicircular corridor and take the first passage on the left. Use the lift, get off the platform and turn right. Walking forward a little, you will find the place of grace “Storage, back.” From here, run west and climb the high wooden ladder.
Once up, turn right and go up the steps. Next, go between the shelving and the wall on the right to find a hole in the wall – go outside through it and immediately turn right. Run along the wooden platform to the top and re-enter the building to activate the “Storage, Attic” location of grace. Then immediately board the wooden elevator, which will take you even higher.
Now move west along the wooden beams and climb the ladder to the upper level. Once up, start walking east and then north. Beware of bats that can knock you off the beams. Next, go down two stairs.
After going down, go through the passage on the right and immediately turn right again and get into the lift, which will take you down. Continue running down the wooden platform, and then turn down and get on another lift. This will take you to the place of grace “Shadow Haven, Back Gate”.
If you go forward, you will face a difficult boss fight, but you don't have to fight him. Go to the room to the right of the “bonfire” and approach the statue, then select the “Oh Mother” gesture to make the stone figure move aside, revealing a hidden path leading to the place of grace “Hinterland”.
Then go down the slope to the east and summon Yolana using the golden sign on the ground – she will help you deal with the mini-boss that appears. Then continue east and cross the bridge. Even further to the east, activate the place of grace “Fingerstone Hill”.
Next, start heading south towards the ruins. Beware of enemies with ranged attacks, as they can easily knock you off the Stream. Once you reach the second ritual site, go to the hanging bell in the center and ring it to receive the Azure Seed Talisman +1.
How to get to the Ruins of the Abode of the Fingers of Miir
Return to Manus Metir Cathedral and talk to Ymir again to receive the Ruins Map (3rd) from him. Plus, he will have new enchantments on sale. Then talk again with Yolana, who will still be standing near the column. She will tell you about the Count's goals. Next, rest at the nearest place of grace.
After this, return to the throne where Ymir was previously sitting and interact with him to open a secret passage down leading to the Ruins of Miir's Fingers. If the High Priest is still sitting on his throne, then try moving to another location and then returning back.
Go down the wooden ladder, and then start walking along the only path forward. Be careful, as the night swordswoman Anna will appear ahead. Defeat her to get the Nightclaws. Next, do not go up to the bell – instead, turn left and pick up the Finger Weaver's Handbook [2] from the corpse. Now return to Yolana and tell her that you were attacked by a night swordswoman in the dungeon. Talk to her several times.
Then return to the dungeon and now interact with the hanging bell. After this, you will be teleported to the arena with the boss – Mother of Fingers Metir. Note that this enemy drops a Memory of the Mother of the Fingers, which you can exchange with Enya in the Round Table Fortress for the Staff of the Great Beyond or the Beholding Finger Club.
Defeat Yolana and Ymir
After dealing with Metir, return to the Manus Metir Cathedral, go to the throne and interact with him again. The night swordswoman Yolana will immediately invade your world, and you will have to defeat her.
After this, Count Ymir, the mother of the Fingers, will suddenly appear – you will have to fight this boss. He will constantly summon monsters in the form of palms and attack you with spells. Therefore, try to stay close to him and constantly attack him.
After defeating this boss, you will receive the following items from him:
- Ymir's Bell Orb – take it to the twin maids in the Round Table Fortress to gain access to the High Priest's store.
- Mother's staff.
- Hat, robe, gloves and underwear of the high priest – Ymir's complete set.
Don't forget to also visit the cemetery on the right side to find the “Caring Fingers” enchantment on the grave – this is one of the spells that Ymir used against you during the battle.
Give Yolana the iris of darkness or grace
Next, rest near the nearest place of grace and return to the throne room. You will find a dying Yolana near the column. Enter into dialogue with her. Next, you have to decide whether to give her the Iris of Darkness or the Iris of Grace (both can be found in the Shadow Haven).
If you use the Iris of Darkness, you will receive the Night Sword – this is a black katana whose damage depends on Dexterity. She is able to accumulate bleeding (45 units) and gives a special skill “Magic Strike”, which allows you to carry out a series of ethereal attacks. This weapon looks very cool, but it doesn’t do much damage, so we still recommend taking a closer look at the second option.
If you use the Iris of Grace, you will receive the spirit of the night swordsman Yolana, which you can summon in battle. We are talking about a rather strong ally, who can also be further strengthened, and now we will tell you how this can be done.
How to find and use Anna's doll
So, if you used the Iris of Grace and obtained the spirit of Yolana, then move to the place of grace “Hinterland”, and then move east to get to the Shaman Village. Then start climbing up the slope. Turn left near the large stone and tree.
Get to the edge of the cliff and you will find a small path here – start going down it, and then jump off the ledges even lower . From the lowest ledge you can jump straight to the balcony of Rabbath's Rise. Inside you will find Anna's doll.
Interact with the puppet, after which a new window will appear where you will be asked if you want to unite the spirits of Yolana and Anna. Click on the “Yes” button and you will receive a new spirit – Yolana and Anna, that is, now when you use it, two young ladies will come to your aid instead of one.
