Alohomora in Hogwarts Legacy: how to pick doors and locks

In Hogwarts Legacy, Alohomora is an important spell with which you can pick locks and doors, opening up previously inaccessible locations. In this guide, we will tell you how to learn these enchantments, and what you need to do to increase their level. We will also take a closer look at the hacking process itself, which is a small mini-game.

How to learn the spell of Alohomora

First of all, you will need to complete the story quest called “The Trial of Percival Rackham”, which will lead to a new main objective related to preparing to find the last guardian. To do this, you will have to complete nine tasks, including the mission “The Caretaker's Complaint about the Moon” (opens after the hero reaches level 14).

Start tracking this quest in your journal to find Gladwyn Moon, who is located near the Reception Hall. Just follow the marker on the minimap and you will get to the right place. Here you will most likely have to wait a bit before the required character appears. Then chat with him.

Moon will tell you about the Demimask moons and ask you to collect them from special figurines scattered around Hogwarts and its environs. You can only collect them at night. You will see the first figurine right in front of you – go up to it and press the action button (“E” by default on PC). After that, Moon will teach you the Alohomora spell. Now you will need to use it to open the door to the Tower of Teachers.

Note: On Story difficulty, you can simply skip these puzzles by instantly opening locked doors.

You will see the inside of the lock with gears and sparks (green and red) controlled by two sticks or two pairs of keys (QE and AD). For example, start rotating a red circle with a red spark and stop it as soon as the central mechanism starts to move (it will also have a red glow).

Now start moving the outer green circle with the green spark. Do this until the side mechanism starts to move. He will also have a green light. Then just wait a bit until the lockpicking completes.

How to upgrade the Alohomora spell

Next, you'll need to get two more Demimask Moons from the Hospital Wing and Headmen's Bathroom. After completing the main quest, you will receive an additional task called “Mr. Moon's Moons”, within which you will need to collect 30 more figurines, thereby unlocking the “Demimask Fear” achievement. We have indicated their location in a separate guide.

That's not the only reward, though. The fact is that by collecting these items, you will be able to upgrade the Alohomora spell:

  • After collecting 9 figures and giving them to Moon, you will receive the 2nd level of enchantment.
  • After collecting more 13 figures and giving them to Moon, you will receive the 3rd level of enchantment.

It should be noted that many doors in and around Hogwarts are locked with level 2 and 3 locks, and you can find a lot of valuable items behind them, so we strongly recommend that you collect demimask figurines.
